The Karambit: Partner Drills Video

About the Videos

Please note that this Spyderco knife is extremely sharp and will shave hair off of my arm. It is extraordinarily dangerous to utilize such a live blade in the manner that is depicted in some of these videos. I have practiced martial arts for years, have utilized trainer karambits for years, and, according to my wife, have been known to do stupid things with knives. This is one of those instances where I say, Kids, please dont try this at home. The actions depicted in these videos are dangerous to you and to others, unless you have a great deal of expertise. Do not attempt them with a live blade.

The partner video shows the use of beginning, intermediate, and advanced level techniques. Notice the change in the plane of attack when I drop low and attack the lower body of my opponent. The flat spin, double attack, to the opponents eye area is demonstrated twice and an upward spinning attack/deflection of the opponents attack targeting the opponents wrist is also shown. For ease of demonstration, I limited my opponent to a right straight punch, allowing me to demonstrate multiple techniques, all three skill sets, and have the vast majority of the techniques adequately captured on film. Free form flow/sparring practice with the karambit is vital for developing advanced skill with the karambit, but is very hard to capture on film with a single, consumer quality video camera. The video depicted here is, of course, nowhere near professional quality, but should serve to demonstrate the techniques and skill sets discussed. I hope that, for those good citizens who own a karambit or who might plan to purchase one, this information has been helpful.

As I have stated above, please do not misuse this information, and please do not attempt the techniques depicted in these videos with a live blade until or unless you are very highly skilled. Even when highly skilled, this kind of work with a live blade is dangerous. If you choose to disregard these warnings and do injury to yourself or others, the onus is on you.
